The Nefertiti Luxury Cruise is Kerala’s first sea-going luxury cruise liner, launched in 2018 by the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation Ltd ( A Govt. Of Kerala Undertaking). Inspired by the grandeur of ancient Egypt, the vessel is named after the iconic Egyptian queen Nefertiti and features themed interiors and spaces such as the “Sistra” banquet hall, “Horus” deck, and the “Amun Ra” open sun deck. Its design blends regal elegance with modern engineering, making it a standout attraction in Kerala’s tourism landscape.
Measuring 48 metres in length and 15 metres in width, Nefertiti can carry around 200 passengers. It is registered under the MS Class VI as special trade passenger vessel, making it suitable for deep-sea cruising. The ship is equipped with radar, GPS, lifesaving and communication systems, ensuring passenger safety while offering a comfortable, air-conditioned experience. Security personnel are also on board to ensure a smooth journey.
Onboard facilities are extensive, catering to both leisure and event needs. Guests can enjoy the “Lapiz Lazuli” restaurant, a lounge bar, a children’s play area, and a mini theatre called “Nile” with 25 seats. The spacious banquet hall can host events, while the sun deck offers panoramic sea views. Entertainment during cruises often includes live music, dance performances, mimicry, DJ sessions, and buffet meals.
The cruises usually start from Bolgatty IWAI jetty, sailing up to 12 nautical miles into the Arabian Sea, near the international waters. Depending on the schedule, morning cruises and evening cruise last around 4 hours. Passengers can enjoy views of Chinese fishing nets, historic coastlines, and sometimes even playful dolphins.
Ticket rates vary based on the day and time. As of September 1st 2025 onwards, weekday mornings cost ₹2000 for adults and ₹500 for children, while weekend and evening DJ cruises are priced higher, up to ₹2,700 for adults and ₹800 for children. Exclusive bookings for weddings, corporate events, or private celebrations are also available, with packages as per requirements.
Since its launch, Nefertiti has been a commercial success. KSRTC’s Budget Tourism Cell is also partnering with Nefertiti as part of their luxury sea cruise trips. Regular upgrades and seasonal pricing adjustments keep it accessible and appealing to a wide audience. After recent maintenance, the cruise will be resuming in September 2025 .
