This was my first time at Willow Springs Lake in AZ. I had never caught a smallmouth bass before and was told Willow Springs was the place to go.

After making the 2-hour drive I started out very early in the morning tossing a jerkbait. I didn't have to wait long as I caught my first fish, a rainbow trout, in the first 30 minutes. About 15 minutes later I caught the first of two smallmouth bass. I was a little disappointed they were so small but my mission was accomplished. I ended up with two trout also for a total of 4 fish on the day.

After the second smallmouth was caught fishing really slowed down. I fished for several more hours covering most of the lake and throwing every lure I had but with no takers. Finally, with the wind picking up, I threw in the towel and called it a day.

Willow Springs Lake is beautiful! I can't wait to go back again; probably in a few weeks or so when the weather warms up a bit more up North.
