Anne Longfield, Children's Commissioner for England, says: "I've been very clear that not going back to school in September would be an absolute disaster for children.

"Children talk now very much about feeling in limbo. They're feeling isolated, they're missing their friends and that social interaction, the mental health aspect and consequences of not going back to school would be enormous as would the educational divide and educational disadvantage that would only open up."
