Inside the Bolu Livestock Market in Tana Toraja, Indonesia 🇮🇩 | Pasar Kerbau Toraja

If you are looking for something to buy, you will find it here! This is the Basar Bulo in Rantepao. This has to be the biggest market in Tana Toraja. We started out in the Buffalo Market but saw live pigs, live fish, dried fish, spices, and vegetables. This market also sells, knives, household goods, clothes, and toys. In this episode, Arru, our guide takes us on a tour of the market and explains the whole process of how to buy and sell buffalos. Some of these buffalos will sell for 1 billion INR! Most of the animals bought here are given as gifts at funerals or weddings. Funerals could have anywhere from 10 - 80 buffalos at them. The Torajan Funeral traditions are in stages: Stage 1 is when the person is considered sick (deceased, but the body is cared for until the funeral); the second stage of death is the actual funeral (dancing, singing, and animal sacrifices), and then the burial. We were honored to take part in all three stages. We will post our funeral videos starting this weekend.
