A few things of note from this game:

Sammy Lee was playing for Osasuna at the time, but missed the game due to injury.

Liverpool wore the previous season's kit as it had been prepared with "Sammy Lee testimonial" embroidered under the badge for the original testimonial game which was meant to take place in March 1987 against Rangers, but that game was postponed. This was a costly game for Liverpool with John Aldridge and Ronnie Whelan both sustaining injuries. Aldridge missed the next 4 game and Whelan (playing his first game for a month) suffered a recurrence of a knee injury and didn't play again until the end of April.

In more positive injury news, Kevin MacDonald made his first team return here, nearly 18 months after breaking his leg at Southampton.
