As someone who ran a side hustle for the past 9 years with a full time job, I took a lot of lessons away with me that I’m applying as a 1st year cut flower farmer. I’m here with a mission. Yes- there is a passion to growing cut flowers, but there are also costs and time associated with it, and I want to make sure I get something ($) out of it. In this video, I break down how I calculate my anticipated costs for the season and look at how much revenue I’m realistically looking to generate. The gap between my costs and the revenue determines whether I’ll make money, break even, or lose money.



Money is one of those topics that needs to be discussed more frequently. Too often, I see people either going into debt to start a business and spending too much on the cost side, thinking that they’ll eventually make enough money to pay the investment back. Well guess what? 98% of businesses fail and the reason is because they run out of money. You can avoid this by being more thoughtful upfront what and how much you invest in your farm.
