Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh held a press briefing on Thursday after Russia fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile at Ukraine.

In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, Russia has reportedly launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at Ukraine, specifically targeting the city of Dnipro. This marks the first known combat use of an ICBM in history, according to Ukrainian officials. The missile was fired from the Astrakhan region in Russia, over 1,000 kilometers away from its target, and is said to have utilized Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology to strike critical infrastructure.
U.S. officials have contested Ukraine's claims, stating that while a ballistic missile was indeed launched, it does not meet the criteria for an ICBM.

The attack comes amid heightened tensions following Ukraine's recent use of U.S.-made long-range ATACMS missiles against Russian targets. President Biden's administration has allowed these strikes, prompting a stern response from Moscow, including updates to its nuclear doctrine that lower the threshold for potential nuclear engagement.
