JUST TO MAKE IT MORE CONFUSING WHAT THIS CHANNEL IS ABOUT.

I recently visited a small village in Guizhou, China for two days. The village is one of the villages where the Dong ethnic minority group resides. Unexpectedly, the villagers were all wonderfully sweet and hospitable, and I ended up having some conversations with a few women that I’d like to share, hence this video.

And forgive me - this might be the masterpiece of shaky cam and shitty audio. And it was hard to (wo)man the camera while focusing on the conversations. I’ve tried my best to make it less shaky and shitty, but anyway, here we have it.

The Dong ethnic group, also known as the Kam people, is one of China's 56 officially recognized ethnic minorities. Primarily residing in the mountainous regions of Guizhou, Hunan, and Guangxi provinces, the Dong people are renowned for their unique language, rich cultural heritage, and traditional lifestyle. They are particularly famous for their intricate wooden architecture, including the iconic Wind and Rain Bridges and Drum Towers, which serve as central communal spaces. The Dong culture is also characterized by its polyphonic folk singing, known as “Grand Songs,” and elaborate festivals that reflect their agricultural calendar and animistic beliefs. Despite the challenges of modernization, the Dong people continue to preserve their distinct cultural identity and traditional customs.
