WWE Payback 2020 Match Card Predictions—Will Heel Roman Reigns Become Universal Champion?
It’s that time again, WWE Payback Match Card Predictions, and winners and Heel Roman Reigns and Keith Lee’s career is on the line tonight, right?
Bayley and Sasha Banks are at the beginning of the end of their successful alliance, and the breaking point could come Tonight against the Dream Team of Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax, who despite having decent chemistry had to recite those Poorly written lines backstage Monday night, rife with dated references to The Adams Family and The Munsters.
I can’t wait for those hot Dick Van Dyke Bars next week.
Baszler and Jax win, Bayley and Banks split the next night on Raw. (BOO)
Apollo Crews faces his toughest test yet tonight in the form of Bobby Lashley, who actually beat him last week on Raw and has been pushed strongly throughout the pandemic. Lashley was last seen cleaning out Raw Underground—again—and a win for Apollo Crews could be a real turning point in his slow-burning singles push.
Apollo Crews wins with a rollup.
WWE showed that it is still the worldwide leader in ruining up-and-coming talent with the clown show that was Keith Lee’s debut. With bad new theme music and even worse new gear, Keith Lee was disqualified inside of four minutes after an underwhelming match with Randy Orton. Suddenly, instead of maybe a showcase match on pay-per-view against a lower-tier wrestler, Keith Lee has been thrown in the deep end against Randy Orton in a match that has shenanigans written all over it.
With Randy Orton in the middle of a world title feud with Drew McIntyre, what are the sheer odds Keith Lee wins this match clean? If this hyped rookie goes up against Randy Orton and comes away empty handed a second time, he’ll be even further behind the eight ball on Monday night, man skirt and all, after being plucked from NXT prematurely.
Keith Lee wins by disqualification in a match designed to set up a Drew McIntyre return.
This poor guy.
Could this be the night Dominik Mysterio turns on his father after another potential loss to Seth Rollins. Rey Mysterio has gone everywhere with young Dominik, but after Dominik requested he don’t get involved in his SummerSlam match last week, Dominik and Rey are now teaming with each other. Rey not giving Dominik the space he needs to excel as a singles star could be the impetus for a heel turn, but I honestly hope it doesn’t come any time soon because A) Dominik makes a great babyface and B) WWE has too many heels.
Team Mysterio wins
After a shaky start, Matt Riddle is set for another big win as he faces King Corbin. As a recent NXT star looking to break out on the main roster, Riddle is in the same position on Friday Nights as Keith Lee is on Monday nights, except WWE has no reason to protect King Corbin in this spot, and I see Matt Riddle going over. Unfortunately, this also appears to be the beginning of a multi-match feud, and you know what that means in this means in this company—50/50.
Matt Riddle beats King Corbin and continues his ascent—for now.
WWE is doing everything right with Big E and his next test is a pay-per-view match against Sheamus, whom Big E has already beat in the recent past. WWE’s back-to-basics formula of telling its fanbase Big E is headed for a singles push—through Kofi Kingston, shout out to him—and putting him over former world champions such as The Miz and Sheamus will continue an organic rise to top star status that many fans have clamored for and, more importantly one that Big E has been ready for.
Big E wins with the Stretch Muffler.
Heel Roman Reigns makes his debut at Payback, and anything less than a Universal Title win would be deflating. It’s too early for The Fiend to lose this title after getting a measure of his mystique back, only to have it compromised again by getting laid out for the first time in his career by Roman Reigns, whose clearly the priority here.
If Roman Reigns does indeed win the Universal Championship in his first match back, which he should, Braun Strowman needs to take the deciding pinfall.
Roman Reigns wins with a new theme song and help from Paul Heyman.
