The Himalayas, Him+alaya mean ‘The Abode Of Snow’. They are young mountains that stretch over the northern borders of India.
These mountain ranges run in a west-east direction from the Indus to the Brahmaputra.
The Great Himalayas is a 2,400 km long arc-shaped mountain range in South Asia. They are the most continuous range with an average height of 6,000 meters and their width varies from 150 km to 400 km.
The range includes the world’s highest mountains like Mount Everest and K2 and is the source of major rivers like the Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra.
Many popular hill stations are situated here like Manali, Mussoorie, Dharamshala, and Nainital & the Shiwalik is the southernmost range of the Himalayas.
Himalayas, referred to as the Third Pole, are the source of some of Asia’s major rivers and help regulate our planet’s climate.
The Himalayas is the highest mountain range in the world and has 9 out of
10 of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest.
