"when violets appear" by Steve Heitzeg

This piece by composer Steve Heitzeg was commissioned by my friend Linda Kelsey for her husband Glenn Strand in honor of 25th wedding anniversary (what a beautiful gift!). The title is a from a line in the e.e.cummings poem 'yes is a pleasant country'.

Originally written for viola and piano, Linda and Glenn approached Byron, one of my favorite Twin Cities collaborators, and I to ask if we might be interested in premiering a new version from Steve for cello and piano. We were honored to do so!
