Yamaha XV750 Custom Build: A Perfect Blend of Cafe Racer and Scrambler Aesthetics | Purpose Built Moto
In the world of custom motorcycle builds, sometimes a project starts with a client’s dream and a partially realized vision. This was the case when James approached Tom Gilroy and his team at Purpose Built Moto with his Yamaha XV750. James had embarked on the journey of transforming his XV750, incorporating some exciting upgrades like inverted forks, front brake calipers from a Yamaha R6, and modern sport bike wheels. However, realizing the complexity of the task, he turned to PBM to bring his vision to life.
The XV750 arrived at PBM already carrying some premium components worth retaining. The R6’s inverted forks and brake calipers were coupled with aftermarket Yana Shiki rotors, enhancing its stopping power. To refine the bike’s stance, PBM made subtle yet impactful adjustments, extending the forks slightly to perfect the posture.
In the rear, PBM upgraded the suspension with a Ride Dynamics shock absorber, ensuring a balanced ride. The choice of Pirelli MT 60 RS tires added a rugged look, blending the cafe racer aesthetic with a touch of scrambler charm, though the bike isn’t meant for off-road adventures.
PBM’s craftsmanship shone through in the fabrication work, starting with a custom tubular subframe seamlessly integrated into the main structure. They topped this with a handmade leather saddle, adding both comfort and style. Beneath the seat, an LED taillight behind a mesh screen and a swingarm-mounted license plate holder with a trellis design provided a unique flair.
The front end boasted a minimalist custom fender and a potent LED headlight flanked by Purpose Built Moto’s own compact turn signals. The cockpit was equally refined, featuring Koso instrumentation, aftermarket clip-ons, billet ISR control levers, and bar-end mirrors, creating a clean and functional setup.
Under the hood, the V-twin engine received necessary refurbishments and new respiratory components. A DNA air filter and fresh Mikuni carburetors enhanced the intake, while the exhaust system, a stainless-steel two-into-one setup, gave the bike a distinctive sound and performance boost.
PBM’s choice of a black and green paint scheme, with elements of Yamaha’s iconic speed block graphics on the gas tank, tied the whole look together, leaving some metal parts unpainted for a raw, industrial feel. This Yamaha XV750 transformation perfectly blends cafe racer elegance with scrambler toughness, a testament to Purpose Built Moto’s skill and creativity.
