DJOLE Djembe Rhythm (Tutorial) Lars & Joshua Pistorius

Djolé auch Jolé oder Yolé, ist ein Maskentanz aus dem Grenzgebiet zwischen Guinea
und Sierra Leone.

Ursprünglich wurde dieser Rhythmus auf quadratischen Trommeln
gespielt und hat sich in der Vergangenheit weiterentwickelt.

In vielen Teilen
Westafrikas wird Djolé heute auch auf Djembé gespielt. Die Maske ist weiblich und wird von Männern in Frauenkleidung während des Tanzes getragen.
Der Lied,
welches zu diesem Rhythmus gesungen wird, ist aus Wörtern der Susu- und der Malinké-Sprache zusammengesetzt und wird wie in Westafrika oft üblich, mit lautmalerischen Wörtern ausgeschmückt. Im Lied ist
das Wort Siko enthalten. Siko auch Sico, ist der Name von quadratischen Trommeln, auf
welcher dieses Stück ursprünglich gespielt wurde.

Djolé (also known as Jolé or Yolé) is a mask dance from the Termine people in the area between Guinea and Sierra Leone. This rhythm is played traditionally with a large square drum called siko or sico.
Although this mask depicts a female, it is carried by a male.
Djolé is played usually during feasts to celebrate a good harvest, the end of the Ramadan or a marriage. In the modern way the rhythm has been rearranged to be played with djembé and dunun's.
Djolé is a popular rhythm in West Africa.
