NURBS curves and surfaces are the building blocks of industrial design. Several properties like the smooth flow of surfaces (like in a car fender) cannot be achieved using Polygon modeling techniques. On the other hand, polygon surfaces allow you to work locally with high precision.

Breaking up surfaces is possible with NURBS, but with certain restrictions relating to the topology. The command for that is "Detach". Enjoy!
