Developing countries, facing the challenges of sustainability and financial viability due to the inescapable realities of poor water supply and sanitation services and constrained budgets, are looking at Public Private-Partnerships (PPP) as an option worth considering helping performance or to develop new sources. Applying lessons learned from the past, with a better understanding of what PPP in water can and cannot bring, are being used increasingly, to manage a specific subset of activities or challenges.

In that context, SWA prepared a series of sessions, about PPP in water, sanitation, and hygiene. SWA is devoting time to this topic because several countries raised questions on PPP at the last Sector Ministers Meeting (SMM), and in bilateral conversations with us since the SMM.
