This video looks at one of the most important aspects of flying. When should you start to descend towards your destination airport or enroute waypoint? With no TOD (Top Of Descent) yet calculated for you in the MSFS A320, we look at a simple 'rule of thumb' you can use.

Maths Equation:-
(Amount of altitude you need to lose by a certain waypoint / 1000) * 3 = X
X = the number of miles away from your waypoints to begin the descent
NB. Its usually advisable to add 10 to X. This gives you 10 extra miles to slow the aircraft down for approach.

This formula above gives a good general rule with a descent rate of 1700-1800fpm at a speed of 270 knots.
