Casio CZ-101 vs Casio CZ-1 Battle (David vs Goliath!) – Is there a difference?

Описание к видео Casio CZ-101 vs Casio CZ-1 Battle (David vs Goliath!) – Is there a difference?

Over the years, many people have commented that the Casio CZ-1 sounds different to other CZs. To investigate this, Casio Chaos Theory puts the Bionic Baby CZ-101 (David) of the CZ family up against the Big Daddy CZ-1 (Goliath) to see if there really is a sonic difference between these two Phase Distortion synthesizers.

The raw CZ waveforms will be compared, as will a large and varied selection of patches that really show the flexibility, range and power of Casio’s Phase Distortion synthesis. Audio spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes will be used as well as the audio, to help to visually, as well as aurally, confirm or disprove if there are any differences between these two vintage CZs when programmed with identical patch data.

Please note that I did my best to initially match the volume of each CZ into my sound interface using one of the raw waves, so that they could be compared as equally as possible. However, the volume of the CZ-1 and CZ101 did differ occasionally during filming depending on the patch being played.

Also included is a brief look at the history and impact of Casio’s Phase Distortion synthesizers.

Strap yourself in and enjoy the ride, as Casio Chaos Theory takes you on a journey into the wonderful world of Phase Distortion synthesis, and also hosts the epic battle between the biggest and the smallest of the CZ synthesizers!

All raw audio from the CZ-101 and the CZ-1 recorded directly from their line-out sockets into a Behringer U-Phoria UMC404HD sound interface, and then directly into a DAW (Mixcraft Pro Studio 9). No VSTs/ effects were used on the CZ-101 and CZ-1 raw audio, other than a Limiter to prevent any clipping.
