We have also seen recent movies where diversity contributed to their success. For example, The Little Mermaid featured an African American actress in the lead role and achieved significant box-office success.

Frederick Hoppe is an assistant professor of Political Communication and Journalism at the University of Amsterdam. His research primarily explores how people process various types of media content and the effects this has on their attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours. He is particularly interested in the moral content of communication and studies these questions using a combination of methods, including surveys, experiments, and computational approaches.

He is a co-author of Representations of racial minorities in popular movies: A content-analytic synergy of computer vision and network science, read more about this research here: https://osf.io/preprints/mediarxiv/3s7nd
