The Adidas Dropset Control Trainer is the new kid on the block for Adidas' budget-friendly training shoes.

What is the Dropset Control? These are the budget little brother of the Dropset 3. For $90, based on my initial tests, these are legitimately sick.

Now before we get crazy, they don’t out perform the Dropset 2s, but I’d put them neck and neck with the Dropset 3s for fit/performance. coughs Adidas, bring back the Dropset 2 and just leave it be, please.

Why are these just as good as the 3s?

Their toe box width is what I’d describe as being in between the 2 & 3, so it feels a smidge more spacious than the 3.

Additionally, the Repetitor foam midsole is definitely stiffer than the Dropset’s dual-density midsole, but breaks in decently well.

I also really like the outsole tread and design. It’s done a phenomenal job for my training thus far with its ridges.

My gripes so far with this shoe include the non-gusseted tongue, which could be wider, and then the security of it would be better, IMO.

The midfoot stiffness is also an acquired taste. Comes with budget shoes, though. Hit me if you have any questions!
