Kavita Krishnamurthy on music, winning Filmfare awards and Lata Mangeshkar

Classical singer and Indian playback singer Kavita Krishnamurty talks about music, singing, her struggles, winning three Filmfare awards and the people who have inspired her and her singing. She talks about wanting to sing for films, the songs she had done for in films, singing with the likes of Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar.

Kavita Krishnamurthy: "Singing for films is a technical skill. I would say that because it's just not enough just having a basic of grounding in classical music. I would say that's very important because that gives you the base to work on. But then just learning a little bit of classical music and then coming on to a mic and singing a light song doesn't really work because you need to know a lot of things about how your voice sounds in a mic and then how actually when you sing certain words, you never realise you're singing it that particular way. you hear it in a film song and then you realise how you're pronouncing your words."
