Living a Meaningful Life in a Digital World | Prabuddha Bharata Special Issue January 2022

The world we live in is no longer just organic. An exponential rise in digital technology means there is a virtual world impinging and almost enveloping the whole of our daily existence.

With the miniaturization of electronic devices, individuals and families are becoming almost always "on-the-move", and spend less time interacting organically, i.e. with nature or with others in a physical and personal way.

Take for example, Artificial Intelligence which, in simulating a human intellect at a gigantic scale, has revolutionized the way industries work and is forcing us to rethink the way we look at manual labour and job opportunities in general.

Although it is obvious that there is no escape for anyone from being affected by the digital revolution that is taking place and will continue for decades to come, we need a plan in place to equip ourselves to deal with the psychological impact it would have in our lives.

Several eminent authors including monks of the Ramakrishna order, scholars, academicians, technocrats, professionals and young people working in the digital atmosphere have shared their knowledge and experience in dealing with the present scenario to find ways to lead a fruitful and enriched life by adapting eternal values of spirituality, especially Vedanta.

In this special issue of Prabuddha Bharata, an attempt has been made to analyse the pros and cons of the digital revolution including that of Social media,Smartphones, Artificial Intelligence and Internet in general, and to find solutions for individuals in particular and humanity in general.
