Princess Anne was seen in Edinburgh on Saturday, June 7, taking part in a significant event to celebrate the unveiling of a new monument dedicated to the memory of Queen Elizabeth the second.
During the ceremony, the Princess Royal revealed a bronze medallion that features an image of Queen Elizabeth.
This medallion serves as a poignant addition to The Royal Scots Monument, which is located in the picturesque Princes Street Gardens.
The monument itself was originally inaugurated on July 26, 1952, and it honors the dedicated service of The Royal Scots to a total of 16 monarchs, dating back to its establishment in 1633, when it was granted a Royal Warrant by King Charles the first. The newly added medallion signifies the final monarch under whose reign the Regiment served, highlighting the significance of this historical milestone.
Princess Anne was joined at the event by Robert Aldridge, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh. They were welcomed by Major General Robert Bruce, the governor of Edinburgh Castle, along with other distinguished guests. The ceremony attracted many former members of The Royal Scots and their families, as well as representatives from The Royal Scots Club and the City of Edinburgh Council. A dedication service was led by Reverend Dr. Iain May, who serves as the Chaplain to The Royal Scots Regimental Association.
In 2007, Princess Anne had previously unveiled an addition to the monument to commemorate the amalgamation of the Regiment, marking a significant chapter in its rich history as well as celebrating its impressive 373 years of service.
Brigadier George Lowder, the Chair of the Regimental Trustees, expressed the pride of The Royal Scots, stating, “The Royal Scots have always been, and continue to be, very proud of their long service to Crown and country, which is commemorated on this monument.”
He added, “Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth the second, the last Sovereign under whom the Regiment served, appointed Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal to be Colonel in Chief of The Royal Scots in 1983. We have been greatly honoured, therefore, that The Princess Royal, whose long and continued connection with the Regiment we cherish, has unveiled this final addition to our monument today.”
