I was working on a 2009 Dodge Journey with the 2.4 liter engine. It had the P2004 code for the Runner Valve stuck closed, and the P301 code for the #1 cylinder misfire. Also started having the P300 code for random misfires. When the car came to me, she had already taken it to 2 other mechanics. They replaced the Spark plugs, swapped injectors and coil packs, checked the fuel pressure and compression in each cylinder. All was good. The first mechanic changed the Runner Valve Actuator, which cleared the P2004 code, but the problem still existed.
The engine would run fine at idle, but would mis really bad starting at around 1,300 rpm. This was not intermittent, it was a hard fault. Watch the video to see what I did to fix it.
