In Jonah chapter 1, Jonah was commissioned by God to go to the Assyrians in Nineveh, but Jonah ran from his assignment and was swallowed by a great fish. The Bible tells us that he “was inside the fish for three days and three nights.” Jonah then prayed and pledged to fulfill his vow to the Lord. The people of Nineveh responded to God’s word spoken by Jonah. When Jonah preached, the city repented, and God withheld his judgment. Even the most wicked will be saved if they truly repent of their sins and turn to God which is why it is of utmost importance that we as followers of Christ have an immediate response and unwavering commitment as we are obedient to what God has commissioned us to do.
