Union Pacific has installed a new relay case for the Iowa Avenue crossing in Onawa. After catching a train on Diamond Street, I went over to see them test the crossing. There's been a few changes to the crossing. Aside from the new relay case, there were also new gate barriers and gate lights on the Siemens signals. The Safetran mechanical bell that was originally on the cantilever has been moved to the right mast signal. What really surprised me was that Union Pacific has installed another Safetran mechanical bell on the left mast signal. The Safetran bell on the left isn't exactly "new" and most likely came from another crossing that had its signals replaced. The recently installed bell was also pretty loud. With the "new" bell installed, this crossing now has 2 Safetran mechanical bells.
Unfortunately, the Safetran bells would not remain there long. When I came back a couple weeks later, they had been replaced by GS E-bells. The Safetran bells did not die, they were just replaced.
