Kaori Shimizu "PSYCHO SOLDIER" Official Single (1987, English Subtitles) - NintendoComplete

Описание к видео Kaori Shimizu "PSYCHO SOLDIER" Official Single (1987, English Subtitles) - NintendoComplete

PSYCHO SOLDIER, the SNK music single produced by SNK and performed by Japanese pop idol Kaori Shimizu, was released in 1987 on cassette tape as a promotional pack-in bonus with the Famicom release of Athena. Shimizu was also the vocalist for the in-game rendition of the song.

Though Psycho Soldier is the sequel to Athena, the games don't feature the same heroine. The Athena Asamiya we know from KOF is the same Athena as is in Psycho Soldier, and she is a descendent of the Athena from the game Athena. The Psycho Soldier arcade game is notable for being the first ever arcade game with a full digitized vocal-track in-game. The American version featured a rewrite of the song, and is largely terrible (but very funny), whereas the Japanese one clearly had some production dollars (or yen, I guess) put behind it.

Athena has appeared in loads of games since her original introduction in the late 1980s. In addition to her starring role in Psycho Soldier, she is an NPC in Crystalis on the NES, a playable character in several installments of the King of Fighters series (beginning in The King of Fighters '94, and most recently in The King of Fighters XIV), among many, many others.

The clips shown were recorded from the following games:
Athena
Psycho Soldier
The King of Fighters 94
The King of Fighters 96
The King of Fighters 97
The King of Fighters 2002
SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium (NGP)

The translation is entirely my own work, as is the recording of the various games, the subtitling, and everything else but the source A/V material itself.

SNK had some really mind-blowing pixel art skills back in the day, especially on the Neo Geo, so the CRT filter used was intended to highlight the incredible attention to detail put into these graphics. I mean, KOF94 in particular is a gorgeous game, especially given that it's now 22 years old!

I hope you enjoy this fantastic 80s anime-style JPOP song!
