We often think of immigration, especially of large numbers of migrants, well, migrating, as a very recent idea.
But a thousand years ago, Scandinavians we call Vikings were emigrating and moving en masse all over Europe and the Near East! Three hundred years before that the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes, migrated en masse to Great Britain, but at the same time that was happening, we now have some very exciting Oxygen Isotope Analysis which shows that people from Ireland, Scandinavia, the Southern Mediterranean and North Africa were also moving to Great Britain!
We already knew that a Catholic abbot, Adrian of Canterbury, was Amazigh (or Berber) from North Africa, and that a 7th century Archbishop of Canterbury, Theodore of Tarsus, was from what is now modern-day Turkiye!
