If you've only stocked one type of ammo, you didn't prepare—you guessed. And guessing wastes resources, draws unwanted attention, and strips away options when things get tight. The biggest mistake isn't having too little ammo; it's having too narrow a selection. One gun, one load, one assumption fails fast in real survival. A shotgun isn't a single-purpose tool—birdshot controls small game quietly without destroying meat or over-penetrating, buckshot delivers serious close-range defense, and slugs extend reach for barriers or large protein. .22LR keeps you fed and discreet when centerfire becomes too expensive or loud. 9mm prioritizes what you can carry and trust under stress with ball for practice and defensive loads for reality. 5.56 buys space and time affordably, while .308 brings authority for distance or large threats. Narrow thinking punishes you when shortages hit or needs shift—variety ensures resilience.
This is for suburban preppers and families who want realistic, practical preparedness—not fantasy stockpiles. As a combat-proven Nurse Practitioner and former 160th SOAR flight medic, I focus on what actually works in high-stress, real-world scenarios where medical readiness and survival planning intersect.
This video is part of my ongoing prepper and medical readiness series from Suburban Prepper (Suburban Prepper) — combat-proven emergency preparedness for real suburban families, not fantasy doomsday scenarios.
This video breaks down:
• Why single-caliber or single-load ammo fails under real stress
• The mistake most preppers make with narrow stockpiles
• What actually works when systems break and needs change
• Real-world lessons from a combat medic and Nurse Practitioner

Mission
This channel exists to help people stay armed, fed, medically capable, and mentally prepared when systems fail and responsibility cannot be outsourced.
Suburban Prepper focuses on real-world preparedness, gear, and self-reliance. Content includes emergency preparedness, Individual First Aid Kits, medical readiness, communications, grid-down planning, AR-15 platforms and defensive gear, prepper gardening, food production, freeze drying, logistics, and civil unrest risk assessment. Political topics are addressed when they directly affect preparedness, self-defense, constitutional rights, and personal liberty. This channel is firmly pro-First Amendment and pro-Second Amendment.
I am a U.S. Army paratrooper and former 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment flight medic, Desert Storm and Afghanistan Veteran who served with the 76th Infantry, Task Force Phoenix. I deployed overseas with both Active Duty and the National Guard, served on State Active Duty missions, and earned the Expert Field Medical Badge, Combat Medical Badge (Second Award), and Air Medal. I later progressed from combat medic to registered nurse to Nurse Practitioner, completed a postgraduate fellowship in Complementary and Alternative Medicine at George Washington University, and previously taught Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as a volunteer instructor for the American Red Cross. That background provides pattern recognition under stress most people never develop.
