Longhurst Sierra

Last seasons Historic GP meeting at Taupo International Motorsport Park was a fantastic meeting and the Historic Touring Cars were brilliant. Here's a video I shot and the story of the car....
"This was the last of five Sierra's raced by the Longhurst B&H Racing Team and the only one built entirely in Australia by the renowned Frank Gardner and Jim Stone. It was regarded at the time as the best Sierra chassis ever built. Completed in early September 1990, the car was tested at Amaroo Park, NSW and then shipped to Bathurst. It was purpose-built to win Bathurst which explains why they built it as a LHD car ( because Bathurst is an anti-clockwise circuit). It quickly showed its potential becoming the first car to break the George Fury lap record at Bathurst, setting a new lap time of 2 minutes 13.84 seconds.
In 1991, Longhurst moved back to racing BMW's and the car was sold to Brian Bolwell who competed in the car in 1991 and 1992 Bathurst 1000 races. The car competed in only 11 races in its history and was purchased by the Bowden Collection in Buderim Qld in 1994.
David Bowden consented to selling the car to Carey McMahon in December 2015 so that McMahon could continue to race an iconic car in the Heritage Touring Car series. McMahon's team rebuilt the entire car in an astonishing 8 weeks and then raced it at Phillip Island in March 2016 where the car qualified in pole position and scored one win and a second placing."

( car is now owned by Andy Greenslade who took the car to 3 wins and a 2nd place over the weekend. Andy's brother Derin was well known in motorsport circles and a good mate, who sadly passed away a couple years back. This post is dedicated to his memory...)
