In this interview conducted by David Bergman, Brad Adams, the recently retired Asia Director of Human Rights Watch (HRW), talks about his twenty years experience of working on Bangladesh. He speaks about his early meetings with Sheikh Hasina in 2008 and the precipitous decline in human rights and governance standards during the course of the Awami League’s 14 years in power under her premiership. He talks candidly about enforced disappearances and extrajudicial executions; the question of fair trials at the International Crimes Tribunal; the likelihood of free and fair elections; freedom of speech; the situation of the Rohingya refugees; and, his views about the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
