What’s up everyone — welcome back to Games Kpow.
Today I’m reviewing Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, which I played on PS5, and honestly… I’ve got some mixed feelings about this one.
Let’s get this out of the way first.
This game is slow.
Like… really slow at the start.
At its core, Yakuza 0 feels like Street Fighter–style brawling, but dropped into an open-world version of Japan with a heavy focus on story and the Yakuza underworld. If you’re jumping in expecting nonstop action straight away, this game might test your patience early on.
Now, that being said — the storytelling is strong.
It’s deep, dramatic, and very character-driven. You’re not just running around punching people — you’re pulled into power struggles, loyalty, betrayal, and straight-up crime family politics. If you like long cutscenes and detailed stories, this is where Yakuza 0 really shines.
Alright, let’s talk combat.
The fighting is actually pretty sick. You’ve got multiple fighting styles, brutal heat moves, and satisfying finishers that make street fights feel impactful. One of the funniest parts is just walking around the city and suddenly — boom — random dudes decide they want smoke. You can’t even mind your own business in this game 😂
Exploring the streets of Japan is a vibe too. Neon lights, packed alleys, side quests everywhere — the world feels alive. And the side activities? Some of them are weird, funny, and completely over the top, which is classic Yakuza energy.
On PS5, the game runs smooth, looks clean, and load times are quick. Just keep in mind — this is still a remastered older game, not something built from the ground up for next-gen.
So the big question…
Is Yakuza 0 worth playing?
If you’re into:
• Strong, story-driven games
• Japanese crime drama
• Brawler-style combat
• And you don’t mind a slow burn
Then yeah — Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is worth your time.
But if you’re after:
• Fast pacing
• Constant action
• Short, punchy missions
You might find yourself getting bored early on.
⭐ Final Verdict
Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is a stylish, story-heavy brawler with great combat and a living world — but the slow pacing won’t be for everyone.
If you stick with it, it rewards patience…
but it definitely asks for it.
