Description: The speakers presented a session focused on medication use in older adults with intellectual disability, by discussing:
Findings related to prescribing trends, polypharmacy, and priorities in medication use in this population,
The recently developed medicine optimisation tool: Optimising PharmacoTherapy and Improving Medication for Ageing with Intellectual Disability (OPTIMA-ID), and
Approaches to support more person-centred, evidence-informed prescribing practices in this population.

Dr. Juliette O’Connell is a registered pharmacist and assistant professor in Therapeutics and Pharmacy Practice in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Trinity College Dublin.

Dr. Cristín Ryan is Professor in Practice of Pharmacy in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science, and Director of the MPharm programme.
