Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the next West Bengal election will be fought on stopping infiltration and removing infiltrators. Speaking at a press conference in Kolkata, he accused the West Bengal government of not allotting land to establish border fencing along Bangladesh and noted that infiltration has stopped in states such as Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kashmir, and Gujarat, but continues in West Bengal.
Shah also criticised the TMC government, saying that in the last 15 years, the state has witnessed fear, corruption, and misgovernance. He added that development has stalled due to corruption, and schemes launched by the Union government have been affected by toll syndicates.
He assured that once the BJP forms the state government after April 2026, the party will revive Bengal's heritage, ensure development, prioritise the welfare of the poor, and construct a national grid to prevent infiltration. Shah highlighted BJP’s growth in West Bengal, noting that the party increased its Assembly seats from 3 in 2016 to 77 in 2021 and secured 39% of votes and 12 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, projecting a two-thirds majority in 2026.
