Hello retro fans today I bring you an absolute classic home conversion.

Golden Axe by Tiger electronics. This was the handheld portable LCD version of arguably the greatest beat em up of all time, and one of the most loved arcade games of all time.

Golden Axe changed gaming. Before golden axe beat em ups were always set in urban settings, inner city slums etc. Think Double Dragon, Final Fight etc.

Golden Axe allowed you to play in a fantasy setting, You could play a warrior, a valkyrie, or a dwarf.

Its difficult to assess which was the most influencial on gaming history. Gauntlet or Golden Axe, and which influenced which.

Golden Axe's influence is still felt all these years later, with Baldurs gate, Warcraft etc still being influenced by the original title.

Tigers LCD game is a handheld pocket sized game that brings together many elements from the arcade. It allows you to play the warrior character, and has you fighting various enemies, it even has magic potions, dragons to ride on, and end of level bosses to beat.

It has some of the theme music, but obviously couldn't recreate the whole musical score.

It plays differently to the arcade, but it is a valiant attempt to keep the essence of the arcade title.

And plays homage to the title in many ways.

It is by far one of Tigers best titles, and most successful arcade conversion.

As a stand alone game is well worth playing for a quick blast of mindless hack and slash sorcery fun.

Is one I would recommend.
