Formula Pattern Scales can be tricky but once you learn them they are fun! They are required on many of the piano examinations around the world, so it is a great idea to take the time to learn them carefully.

This short video covers formula pattern scales in the key of Db (and/or C#) Major. Using a rhythmic technique of short/long rhythms, you will be able to really think about what is coming up next in your scale, and lock in all of the fingerings and changes.

One of the most important tips is to think of this scale in segments. Which segments are the hands playing in parallel motion? Which segments are the hands playing in contrary motion?
