Hendrik Voss is the Head of ARRI China, overseeing sales and service for camera systems, lighting, and rental across mainland China. Now based in Beijing, he spent most of his career at ARRI’s global headquarters in Munich as part of the product management team, where he played a key role in developing the current Electronic Control System (ECS). With a strong background in product design, Hendrik has a lasting passion for tools that are not only effective, but also thoughtfully crafted and a pleasure to use. He works closely with filmmakers, developers, and global teams to help shape the future of visual storytelling.
For over a decade, the ARRI ALEXA has helped define the visual language of contemporary cinema, television drama, and high-end commercials. In this talk, Hendrik Voss (ARRI China) reveals the inside story of ALEXA’s development — from its early concepts to its enduring impact on filmmakers around the world. As a member of the original product management team and the creator of ARRI’s current Electronic Control System (ECS), he offers personal insights into the camera’s philosophy, design decisions, and ecosystem thinking that continue to shape the creative tools of today and tomorrow.
