Dr. Michelle Kinoshita: If you've got a damp dog, you don't want to give it damp foods, that type of thing, but more importantly, I don't want a dog on highly processed food. That's my biggest focus—trying to get them onto something that's not processed, so not kibble. Kibble is the worst thing possible. But some people have to feed kibble because it fits their lifestyle. So if they're going to do that, then I'll try to say, "Okay, let's supplement with these foods that will help out." It really depends on the patient, but the majority of my patients are either on a raw food diet or a gently cooked diet. If they're feeding kibble, maybe one of their meals is one of those other non-processed foods. Then we look at if you're buying commercial food, can we supplement that with something else to help with your animal's particular condition? That's where Chinese food therapy would come in.
