In the historic Siege of Chittorgarh (1568) against the Mughal Emperor Akbar, the Rajput warriors displayed unmatched valor. When the call to battle came, Kallaji Rathore left his marriage ceremony, promising his bride he would return. Legend states that even after being beheaded by the enemy, his torso (dhad) continued to fight, decimating the Mughal forces to protect the fort. He eventually returned to the wedding pavilion to complete his vow.
