The Chenchus are Adivasi, an aboriginal tribe, referred to as one of the Primitive Tribal Groups do not cultivate land but they are still dependent on forests. Some Chenchus have continued to specialize in collecting forest products for sale to non-tribal people. Many Chenchus live in the dense Nallamala forest of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Chenchus have responded unenthusiastically to government efforts to induce them to take up farming themselves. The Nallamala forest is the home of Chenchus. National Tiger Conservation Authority ordered to stripe them of their rights in a bid to fortify India’s largest tiger reserve and now another danger is looming to this endangered community is Uranium exploration in this Nallamala forest.
