I’ve always wanted to do a Chinese cover!! When AAPI month came along, I knew exactly which song I wanted to sing. I sang in Chinese most of my childhood and having spent so much time listening to c-pop, I knew exactly which song to sing. I first heard 我要我们在一起 (I want us to be together) when G.E.M. covered it in a show I watched when I was around 15. She bodied the song with a full key change and massive piano lines and I knew immediately I wanted to cover this song eventually. It always made me feel so romantic and made me want to dance around the room when I heard the crazy fast paced verses and flowy choruses. And when we started recording the song, me and Labit, an amazing AAPI artist and the guitarist for this cover, immediately started humming Sunday Morning and I knew it was the perfect little combination. The meanings align, the melodies align, and I’ve wanted to cover both since I was really young so this one was very special. This video was also directed/filmed/edited by the one and only Aser Santos. Jr and it was a dream come true to have so many amazing AAPI creatives to collaborate on this!! - Emei
