Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr says there have been “massive landslides” in Far North Queensland following ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper making landfall last week.

Far North Queensland is still undergoing a crisis after the cyclone wreaked havoc on the region, causing major floods where many communities remain inundated.

“The first thing, of course, is a priority of getting to those people north of the river, which we still haven’t been able to get to yet, so that will be actioned today,” Mr Kerr told Sky News Australia.

“We will be looking to see how the ferry is so we can get the ferry ... in the water to get across to the other side, but that’ll also allow us to get machinery over there to start working across there.

“From what we can see from the helicopter footage that we’re now seeing, there’s some massive landslides and infrastructure damage over there.”
