How to Install a Pickguard with Misaligned Screw Holes

Описание к видео How to Install a Pickguard with Misaligned Screw Holes

Written instructions in the description:

1) Remove the old pickguard
2) Keep the screws somewhere safe where you won't lose them
3) Chop the ends off some matches
4) Place the matches in the old screw holes
5) Cut off the ends about halfway for easier access with a pair of pliers
6) With the pliers level to the body, pick up the matches and cut them off at the correct length for each old screw hole
7) Arrange the pieces where you can keep track of which piece belongs to which screw hole
8) Put glue on the match and push it down into the screw hole
9) Wipe off any excess glue
10) You can use a pushpin to push down on the matches
11) Wipe off any dust or glue
12) Let the glue dry completely before drilling the new screw holes
13) I put some masking tape over the holes to help keep the paint from cracking
14) I also put some more masking tape on the edges for added stability when drilling
15) I put a piece of electrical tape on the drill bit so I don't drill too deep down into the instrument's body
16) Keep the drill bit straight and aim for the centre

This is a video that I would've liked to have seen before starting this project. When I ordered this bass I also ordered a different pickguard along with it, but I soon realized that the screw holes (aside from two) weren't aligned properly, so I had to fill the old ones and drill new holes.

I used matches to fill the old screw holes, but you can also use toothpicks or whatever fits best. Before drilling, I put some masking tape on to not only prevent any paint from cracking, but also because it'd be easier to find the centre without focusing so much on what's underneath.

The old pickguard came with 9 holes and 9 screws while the new pickguard had 10 holes, which meant that I had to go out and get an extra screw for that last hole - which you can see is still missing in the video.
