LIVE: India Takes On Bangladesh For Arresting Hindu Monk Chinmoy Das | Vantage with Palki Sharma

India on Tuesday criticised the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh on sedition charges. Das, who formerly led ISKCON, a global Hindu organisation, and headed a temple in Chattogram, was arrested at the Dhaka airport on Monday. The sedition case was filed after Das, along with other Hindu community leaders, participated in a rally in Chattogram on October 30, where they were accused of disrespecting Bangladesh's national flag. Reports say that a saffron flag was allegedly placed over Bangladesh's national flag during the rally. As a result, police filed charges against 19 people, including Das. On Tuesday, Das was taken to a Dhaka court, which denied him bail and ordered 10 days of custody. Following his detention, his supporters gathered in the city to protest. In a statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs urged Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and other minorities. Concerns about the safety of minorities in Bangladesh have grown since the ousting of Sheikh Hasina in August this year.
