in this video i'll tell you all you need to know about taking the boat ferry from sierra bay costa rica to drake bay

it's a sign to look for tour operator la perla del sur this is where you take a left when coming into town sierra bay and then go down to the end over here to the boat taxis so you basically drive through town and you see this sign don donde jorge at this restaurant and this is where you're going to take the water taxi

they ask which hotel you're staying at you give them the name of your hotel and depending on where that is in drake's bay will determine which captain and which boat you take i recommend taking just a backpack of your stuff but if you do have a suitcase that's allowed that they'd rather not have too many suitcases because they are pretty small boats

and when it's your time to go they'll call out your hotel so there's a restaurant here you can wait in the restaurant get something to eat

we got here about an hour early and we're safe to get on our boat actually i take it back about getting something to eat at the restaurant we ordered our food right when we got there and it was just coming out when we were about to leave so we had to pack it up to go i do recommend getting food once you get to drake bay because there are so many delicious restaurants there the ride is a fast-moving hour-long journey that takes you through the beautiful mangroves that line each side of the river

but the real excitement comes when you leave the mouth of the river to enter the ocean here you'll be thankful that these boat captains are well skilled in handling the small craft on the large waves depending on the tide and the size of the waves this is where you'll do good by saying a quick prayer you probably already heard that this is a wet landing but for those of you who don't know what that means it's when the boat backs up as close as they can get to shore to let you off there aren't any docks on drake bay so you'll get off and wade through the water until you come to dry land the landing isn't so bad but of course it completely depends on the weather and the tides

the boat leaves twice a day once at 11 30 and the second one at 3 30. there's no ticket to buy you just pay the captain once you're in roots it's 15 us dollars for the morning ride and dollars for the afternoon and you pay this each way

if you brought a large backpack or a suitcase no worries someone from the boat will carry it to shore for you

Driving into town and finding the boat launching area is easy. Just follow the signs.. Once you turn down the street toward the river, someone will approach your car and ask which hotel or airbnb you're staying at. This will determine which captain and which boat you will take. The captain's tend to keep an eye on the Passengers of their boats and will call you or come and get you when it's time to leave. There's no ticket to buy, you simply pay the captain Once you're on the boat. Make sure to bring enough money for both ways since your fare is for a one way journey.
The 11:30 ride is $15 a person and the later one is $20 per person.
