Hopper is an arcade game for the Aquarius by Microdeal. It was written by Skin Soft (Morgan Skinner) in 1983 and released on tape in 1984. I'm not sure what memory requirements it has.

Hopper is a Frogger clone as I am sure you have already guessed. The aim of the game is to get your frogs across a four lane road and then across a river into four homes at the top of the screen. This is no easy feat and it won't take you long to work through your stock of five lives. This version of Frogger only allows you to move sideways and forwards. There is no going backwards if you make a wrong move. This makes the home on the right side of the screen very difficult to fill. Scoring is 10 points for each jump forward and 100 bonus points for getting a frog home.

The game does make relatively good use of the limited graphics ability of the Aquarius. Sound is also ok. Gameplay is quite hard, not helped by the inability to go backwards. Movement is decidedly clunky. Overall, this is a challenging and often frustrating game, but the Aquarius was a very restrictive machine and by its standard this is not a bad effort.

This run was made on the 5th September 2023. There are no skill levels and the final score was 1,000 points. The emulator used is Aqualite, running at PAL settings as this is a UK game.
