Col James H. McClintock built this house in 1911. He was a member of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders, fought and was wounded in the Spanish American War. He was postmaster of Phoenix from 1902 - 1914, helped to start the Arizona Republic newspaper and surveyed the site of Roosevelt Dam. He was a prolific writer with a keen interest in history and archaeological research. Established in 1964, McClintock High School in Tempe bears his name. McClintock Hall at Arizona State University is also named for him.
