We run this play against an aggressive person-to-person defense. It also works especially well if your team is quick and undersized. There is so much activity on the offensive end, with multiple on ball and off ball screens that it's difficult for the defense to keep up.

Communication is key to having a successful basketball team. I'll take a team that communicates well with average talent over a team of superstars that can't talk to each other. Most offensive basketball plays are designed to force communication by the opposing defense in order to stop it.

Even the simple pick and roll requires good communication. Do I go under or over the screen? Are we switching on a screen? What if I get stuck behind a screen. Any play that can force communication by the defense has a greater potential for success if the defense fails to talk to each other.

I especially enjoyed calling this play when I had a great point guard who could come off the top screen with speed and finish strong at the basket.

This offensive play against a 2-3 zone is great for teaching youth, club teams, junior high, high school, and recreational teams.
