Introduction pharmaceutical Legislations generally includes provisions relating to the manufacturing, importing, distribution, marketing, prescribing, labeling, dispensing, and sometimes pricing of pharmaceutical products, as well as the licensing, inspection, and control of personnel and facilities.

It was first published for seeking public opinion and then submitted to a select committee and was finally adopted as the Drugs Act 1940. In 1945 the Drug Rules under the Drugs Act 1940 were published. In 1962, the Drugs Act became Drugs and Cosmetics Act by incorporating cosmetics also within its purview.
