THE IRISH ROVERS Remembrance Day Special was produced in the CBC Vancouver studios in 1976. "LET US REMEMBER" featured the Rovers (Will Millar, Jimmy Ferguson, George Millar, Joe Millar, Wilcil McDowell and temporary Rover Bob Donovan) with guest Vera Lynn, WW11 Forces' sweetheart, paying tribute to those who died during the two World Wars. This was a departure from the regular Rovers series and specials, mixing drama with music, re-enactment of the trenches and archival footage, and featured songs popular during the wars such as "Pack Up Your Troubles," "Mademoiselle from Armentieres,""K-K-K-Katy," "Kiss Me Goodnight," "Keep the Home Fires Burning." The powerful Irish traditional anti-war song "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye" dates from the early 1820s, while the same tune is used in "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" which was first published in the US in 1863. The song is about a soldier returning home wounded from the war .....
"Ye haven't an arm, ye haven't a leg,
You're an armless, boneless, chickenless egg,
Ye'll have to be put with a bowl out to beg,
Oh Johnny, I hardly knew ye."

The Special was produced by Ken Gibson and directed by Michael Berry. The writer was Scottish-Canadian novelist of historical fiction Jack Whyte (A Dream of Eagles).
