Holger Badstuber wants Germany to tighten up their defence during their forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden.

While the cliché suggests that Germany are always well organised and hard to break down, in reality, the Germans have only kept one clean sheet in their last seven matches, and that was against the Faroe Islands.

It is a record that defender, Holger Badstuber wants to improve upon:

"It is important to focus on the defence. We have been a bit sloppy there in the last games. We need to focus, take a step forward. Defensive work starts up at the front and that includes the whole team. It's easier for everybody if we see defending as team work."

No matter how many they concede, Germany know how to score goals and they are three points clear at the top of World Cup qualification Group C.

Joachim Loew's side will look to keep things tight at the back when they visit the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Friday, before playing host to Sweden in Berlin on Tuesday.
